I stepped into your living room
while no-one else was around.
I took a card from a deck
kept in a chest of drawers.
It showed your face and it
showed her face, too,
mirroring as if to say:
Two people have become one.
How can two people be one?
Two people cannot be one.
I walked it off with a stroll
into the garden out front.
The smell of roses ahead,
eyes guarded from afternoon sun,
I hear my own steps
on the graveled path
leading up to the fence door.
Clouds of dust at my heels.
How can a thought disappear,
A rack of thoughts disappear?
